ABOUT THE MASTER OF SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION
The University of Washington online Master of Sustainable Transportation provides transportation engineers and planners with the latest knowledge, skills and tools needed to become leaders in developing and maintaining sustainable transportation practices.

Advance your career and gain a meaningful education that addresses today's issues in sustainable transportation and benefits the safety, health and welfare of the public. Learn how to implement programs that encourage mixed use and higher density levels, develop environmental solutions to improve land use planning, review what makes a community livable and evaluate transportation system life cycles. The program is divided into three areas of concentration:
  • Planning and Livable Communities
  • Environmental Issues and Impacts
  • Policy Development, Health and Economics
This three-year program is offered in a part-time, online format using Adobe Connect, Web-based software that provides a virtual, interactive classroom. View lectures, both recorded and in real-time, build your professional network, and collaborate with your colleagues and instructors.



Certificate Programs in Sustainable Transportation

If you are unsure about applying to the Master of Sustainable Transportation or plan to apply to the master’s program at a later date, you may be interested in enrolling in one of our certificate programs that focus on the three areas of concentration:
Each of these online certificate programs is nine months long and offered for both credit and non-credit. If you take a certificate program for credit, you will earn 12 non-matriculated graduate credits upon program completion. Up to 12 of these credits may be applied to the online Master of Sustainable Transportation if you apply for graduate non-matriculated (GNM) status and are accepted to the graduate program.
